Lingam often known as Shiv Lingam is one the most often seen representation of Lord Shiva one if the god in the hindu trinity. It consists of an oval pillar known as lingam and a flat, carved piece of rock which holds the lingam known as yoni. Sometimes in temples a yoni revolves around the lingam but the lingam stays steady… This might not interest you but this method is one of the most used methods of generating electricity by making rotating mechanisms like turbines. All we have to do in this case is make the central cylinder a magnet and the rotating base into a conducting material and you can make electricity. This is a common scientific principle known as electromagnetic induction. You might think that the cylinder is made from a rock not a magnet but a rock known as black basalt is quite magnetic and when we put a magnet next to it, it attracts the magnet quickly. This is the same polished rock used to make almost all ancient lingam. Some temples even have lingams made from metals to enhance the effect. So interesting isn’t it.
